DEPARTMENT OR SCHOOL SITE

The Architectural and Engineering Services Branch of the Facilities Services Division is responsible for designing, reviewing, and managing architectural projects that support the District’s school modernization and construction programs. Architectural Associates support planning and design services to ensure functional, safe, and aesthetically appropriate educational environments.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares preliminary and final architectural drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Reviews design proposals, construction plans, and materials for compliance with District requirements.

  • Coordinates with consultants, engineers, and internal departments on project development and design.

  • Participates in site visits and inspections for planning or evaluation purposes.

  • Ensures adherence to building codes, sustainability standards, and educational facility regulations.

  • Provides technical support in the development of architectural policies and standards.

  • Prepares reports and presentations for stakeholders regarding project design and progress.

  • May oversee or guide the work of drafting or design support staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
Qualifying architectural design experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.

 

Experience:
Three (3) years of architectural design experience on large commercial, government, or school building structures, including the use of at least one recognized computer-aided design (CAD) software system.

 

Special:
A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or other CAD systems.

  • Have knowledge of educational facility standards and applicable building codes.

  • Show ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.

  • Possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Exhibit attention to detail and commitment to design excellence.

  • Be able to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment score.
