The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at Aldama Elementary School towards academic success.
Aldama Elementary School is a single track school located in Northeast Los Angeles, nestled in the Highland Park area. Aldama has a strong, well-established Spanish Dual Language program that is in its 17th year of implementation. The student enrollment is approximately 327, in grades TK-5, with 152 students participating in the residential program and 175 participating in the Spanish Dual Language program. Campus-wide, student demographics consist of 75% Hispanic, 10% White, 1% Asian and 1.2% Two or More Ethnicities. 19% of students are Emergent Bilinguals, 20% are Students with Disabilities and 9% are Gifted/Talented. Aldama continues to foster a strong, caring and collaborative environment among parents, the community, teachers and staff to ensure students realize their greatest potential. To assist in this effort, Aldama has been designated as a California Community School with the goal of utilizing community partnerships to support improved academic outcomes, whole child engagement and family development.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will work cooperatively and collaboratively with all stakeholders and has: (A) a strong instructional background in using data to implement multi-tiered systems of supports for all students; (B) strong knowledge of the California State Standards, the LAUSD Strategic Plan, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, the Emergent Bilingual Support Plan, Special Education, Gifted/Talented students and District Instructional goals; (C) knowledge of guidelines and expectations for implementing an effective Biliteracy and Dual Language model; (D) to be intensely focused and demonstrate successful experience with leadership skills and responsibilities; (E) the ability to create a cohesive and supportive professional learning community; (F) the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development for all levels of personnel; (G) experience with improvement science and PDSA cycles for improvement and possess strong and effective planning and organizational skills; (H) effective oral and written communication skills; (I) strong management and interpersonal skills; (J) to be a creative and skilled problem solver; (K) experience managing resource allocations that support full implementation and execution of instructional goals; (L) the ability to develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; (M) experience implementing a school-wide positive behavior system through elevation of student voice; (N) the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; (O) the desire and ability to build strong and caring family and community partnerships. The ideal candidate must work collaboratively with all stakeholders, Governance Councils and community partnerships while modeling the school's mission.
SALARY:
41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
