The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services, to lead the students, staff, and community at Caroldale Learning Community towards academic excellence.

 

Caroldale Learning Community STEAM Academy serves approximately 663 students. The student population of Caroldale has approximately 50% Hispanic/Latino, 3% Asian, 20% Filipino, 8% two or more races, 8% Black/African American, 2% White, 3% Pacific Islander, and 6% not reported. Additionally, 77% of students qualify for free or reduced-price meals, 8% are English Learners, 10% are gifted, and 17% are students with disabilities. Caroldale is on the traditional school calendar and serves PreK to Grade 8.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will have a strong instructional and counseling background and knowledge of A-G requirements; have experience with the development of the Master Schedule; have experience in the identification, placement and reporting of various programs including Honors, Gifted, Special Education, and English Learners; have knowledge of IEP’s; experience in utilizing the principles and practices of counseling and guidance, Restorative Justice and Trauma Informed Practices; the ability to strategize and provide multiple and differentiated learning opportunities to support student academic needs in addition to their social, emotional, psychological and physical needs; have experience supervising and evaluating personnel and have the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community agencies.

SALARY:

40G - B Basis ($116,751 – $145,407) – 221 paid days

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office

 

Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                         • Multicultural coursework*

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university       • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying.  In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
