REGIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR,

K-12 ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA)

The regional professional development coordinator assists the region in supporting the academic needs of all students by promoting learner-centered, standards-aligned English language arts instruction and assessment designed to meet the needs of students.  

The regional professional development coordinator collaborates with the region teams, school-site personnel, and other central offices to design, lead, and facilitate professional development and other instructional support structures to effectively implement data-driven, results-based programs for all students.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates the design and delivery of professional development for teachers, administrators, and other staff that is directly aligned to the California content standards for English language arts and the California ELA/ELD Framework
  • Leads the implementation of professional development related to District initiatives in the District’s Strategic Plan related to literacy instruction in the English Language Arts program and across other disciplines
  • Coordinates the use of student-centered data to identify and design differentiated District-wide strategies to address areas of need in English language arts instruction with a focus on secondary grades
  • Coordinates with the region and schools to build capacity of schools to implement multi-tiered systems of support for all students
  • Designs and provides professional development that supports educators in effectively integrating content literacy across all subject areas as outlined in the California content standards
  • Collaborates with central office staff to ensure school staff can effectively support all students including English learners, Standard English learners, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented education students
  • Researches and provides guidance regarding literacy and English language arts in the form of inter-office correspondences, memorandums, and updates in the Learning Management System (LMS)

CONTINUE - PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides content and technical support to the regions in the District-wide implementation of the California content standards
  • Writes, reviews, and approves new ELA course submissions; provides guidance and support to the authors and teachers of new courses
  • Designs professional development to support the college and career coaches in understanding their role in navigating their position as a site employee with Title I responsibilities, data systems and analysis, and coaching skills/dispositions
  • Writes and reviews procedures related to ELA instruction
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are related to building capacity of school staff to be effective educators

SALARY:

41G, School Support Administrator (0515) – A Basis ($141,102 – $176,010) – 261 paid days

  • In the case of annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a leadership position(s) (e.g. coordinator, instructional coach, dean)
  • At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public-school experience as a teacher
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the instructional strategies that promote accelerated achievement of historically under-represented communities such as English learners, Standard English learners, students with disabilities, gifted and talented education students, and socioeconomically disadvantaged students
  • Knowledge of Equitable Grading and Instruction (EGI)
  • Knowledge of monitoring, supporting, and evaluating English Learner (EL) Master Plan implementation in order to improve the achievement of English learners and long-term English learners
  • Successful experience as an English language arts teacher
  • Experience using Schoology and other digital instructional tools
  • Experience in designing and delivering virtual professional development (asynchronous and synchronous)
  • Experience collaborating with third-party organizations (e.g., vendors, publishers, non-profits, etc.) to provide instructional and curricular services for schools
  • Experience as either a regional English language arts team member or English language arts coach
  • Experience in designing and delivering professional development using adult learning theory

CONTINUE - DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with using the Teaching and Learning Framework and School Leadership Framework
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and use data to improve student achievement and inform instruction to promote academic proficiency for all students
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout the District
