The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks a visionary Elementary Principal to lead the students, staff, and community of Mar Vista Elementary School toward continued academic excellence.
Mar Vista Elementary School is a thriving TK-5 campus serving a diverse population of approximately 585 students. The student body is comprised of 54% White, 20% Hispanic, 17% Asian, 7% African American, and 2% other. As a high-performing School for Advanced Studies (SAS) and a model community school, Mar Vista serves a wide range of learners, including 17% GATE, 15% Special Education, and 7% English Learners. The school is defined by a collaborative culture where parents, staff, and community members partner to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
is a dedicated instructional leader with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with all stakeholder groups; must possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; have a proven track record of successful educational leadership; and be able to sustain robust parent-community partnerships. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a deep understanding of the Common Core State standards, the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Frameworks, the English Learner Master Plan, and the District’s Strategic Plan. The ideal candidate is a leader who can effectively supervise the instructional program, facilitate high-level professional development, and utilize data to inform decisions and develop sustainable school budgets. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have expertise in the science of reading and balanced literacy, including the workshop model, Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), and differentiated curriculum, with a strong commitment to supporting the arts, sciences, and technology. Above all, the successful candidate must be a visible leader who will partner with staff and parent groups – including the PTA, Booster Club, Parent Leadership Team, and Local School Leadership Council – to champion the school’s vision, mission, and goals.
SALARY:
41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
