The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Secondary to support the students, staff, and community at Iovine and Young Center (IYC) Integrated Design, Technology, and Entrepreneurship Magnet towards achieving academic success for all students.
IYC Integrated Design, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (IDTE) Magnet is located in the historic neighborhood of Leimert Park. Our school was founded by visionary entrepreneurs Jimmy Iovine and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young to reconceptualize high school to provide a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary program that fuses a proven curriculum with real-world, project-based learning opportunities with some of the nation’s leading institutions and companies. Students will have unparalleled access to innovative technologies and opportunities to collaborate with top educators, industry experts, and executives in order to develop relevant, 21st century skills that will prepare them for competitive colleges and careers of the future. Our school currently serves under 100 students in 9th through 12th grades. We are a School-Wide Title I Program, with a student population that is 77% Economically Disadvantaged, 64% African American, and 23% Latino. Our school is located at 4120 11th Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, 90008.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will be an innovative educator who reimagines teaching and learning by designing engaging and diverse experiences that inspire students to think creatively. An exceptional communicator, this leader collaborates with all stakeholders and external partners to foster a school culture centered on academic achievement, equity, and social-emotional wellness. This leader brings a deep understanding of the Teaching and Learning Framework and Common Core State Standards, with the ability to lead data-driven conversations, facilitate impactful professional development, and provide meaningful instructional feedback to teachers. Culturally responsive and operationally sound, they have extensive experience working with diverse populations, managing school budgets and operations, overseeing student recruitment, and implementing a 4x4 master schedule. Furthermore, they are skilled in implementing restorative justice strategies as part of a robust School-Wide Positive Behavior Support plan.
SALARY:
43G – E Basis ($133,626- $166,705) - 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school certificated service
- Three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program
- Two years of experience at a middle or senior high school
- Two years of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
