The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding elementary Principal to lead the students, staff, families, and community of Hooper Avenue Elementary School toward continued academic growth and success. 

 

Hooper Avenue Elementary School is a single-track, schoolwide Title I school serving approximately 550 students in grades 1–5. The student population is approximately 93% Hispanic/Latino, and 7% African American/Black. Of the total enrollment, approximately 37% of students are English Learners and 16% are Students with Disabilities.

 

Hooper Avenue Elementary offers a Dual Language Spanish Program and Special Day Programs serving students in grades 1–5. The school staff includes 31 classroom teachers, an Assistant Principal and AP-EIS, a TSP Adviser, Intervention Coordinator, Instructional Coach, MMALC Coach, and itinerant support staff. Hooper Avenue Elementary strives to serve as a hub for students and families by strengthening academic achievement, student wellness, family engagement, and community partnerships. The school is located at 1225 E 52nd St, Los Angeles, CA 90011.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will be a student-centered, instructionally focused, collaborative, and equity-driven leader who has a firm belief that all students can achieve high levels. The candidate will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to lead a diverse elementary school community that includes English Learners, Students with Disabilities, students in a Dual Language Spanish Program, GATE students, and students with a range of academic, social-emotional, health, and developmental needs.

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Lead high-quality instruction by supporting standards-aligned teaching and learning, effective implementation of District curriculum, differentiated instruction, and meaningful feedback to teachers through classroom observations, coaching, and professional learning. 
  2. Use data to improve student outcomes by analyzing multiple measures of student progress, identifying trends and areas of need, monitoring interventions, and leading staff in data-informed instructional planning. 
  3. Strengthening collaborative leadership by building trust, developing shared responsibility, and engaging teachers, staff, families, students, and community partners through structures such as Instructional Leadership Teams, professional learning communities, and school-based decision-making teams.  
  4. Promote an inclusive and positive school culture by supporting restorative practices, Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support and social-emotional learning. 
  5. Manage school operations effectively by aligning resources, staffing, budgets, and programs to school priorities while maintaining clear communication, organization, and accountability.

SALARY:

42G - E Basis ($129,897 - $162,207) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                      • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university    • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
