The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Secondary, to lead the students, staff, and community at Girls Academic Leadership Academy, Dr. Michelle King School for STEM towards academic success.
The Girls Academic Leadership Academy (GALA) is the only all-girls SPAN grades 6-12 school in LAUSD and the state of California. GALA serves 715 students in grades 9 through 12 with a diversity consisting of 30% Latina. 29% White, 14% African American, 14% Asian and 13% two or more identification. With 66% of the school designated as GATE, the school has recently been designated a school-wide School for Advanced Studies (SAS) program. Student admissions are through the Choices SAS process. GALA is a college prep school with a STEM focus and 100% students graduate on time and are accepted to college with many receiving full scholarships to some of the most prestigious colleges in the country. GALA is a full Equity Grading and Instruction (EGI) school with Growth Mindset, Social Emotional Learning and Restorative Practices as the frame. GALA is in the second year of a three year facilities rebuilding plan.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The Ideal Candidate will have knowledge of an experience with EGI, SEL, and leading a specialized program and/ or school.
The candidate will also have knowledge of the Common Core State Standard, LAUSD School Leadership Framework, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, English Learner Master Plan, Special Education, and the District’s Strategic Plan; the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development at all levels of personnel; experience working collaboratively with all stakeholders and demonstrate professionalism and respectful interactions; willingness to delegate responsibilities as they relate to our Local School Leadership Council and School Site Council structures; strong and effective planning and organizational skills; the ability to work independently; excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; the ability to interpret data to inform decisions and develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; and the ability to support a successful positive school-wide culture; experience grant writing and developing corporate partnerships. The ideal candidate must be willing to work collaboratively with the staff, parent groups, Friends of GALA organization, partner schools, The Young Women’s Leadership Network and International Coalition of Girls Schools, the community, a network of community and corporate partners and promote and model the school’s mission and values.
SALARY:
45G - E Basis ($141,159 - $176,037) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in only middle AND/ or high school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
