ABOUT EDWIN MARKHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL:
PRINCIPAL – EDWIN MARKHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL
1650 E 104th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90002
Home of the Eagles, Edwin Markham Middle School is located in Watts and serves over 500 students in grades 6-8. Edwin Markham Middle School also has two magnets: Health Careers and Visual and Performing Arts. The school, named after poet Edwin Markham, feeds into Jordan High School. Enrichment and after-school activities include soccer, volleyball, computer classes, dance, and yearbook publication. The Boys & Girls Club, City Year Intervention Program, Mouse Squad, MESA, and Students Run LA are among some of the many additional programs offered on campus.
In addition to these core programs, Markham offers unique opportunities made possible through strong community partnerships. School staff have access to Wellness Rooms and the school’s physical education and family support programs have been bolstered by multiple donations from the Los Angeles Rams Play Maker program. A standout feature of the campus is a professional recording studio, where students work to create and produce music. These resources, along with a history of community support, ensure that Markham remains a center of innovation and pride for its students.

ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP FOR LOS ANGELES SCHOOLS:
Launched in 2007, the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools’ mission is to transform schools to revolutionize school systems, empowering all students with a high-quality education. The Partnership is a non-profit, in-district partner to LA Unified, not a charter network. As an independent nonprofit organization, the Partnership serves 12,200 students across 20 LA Unified schools in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. The Partnership works within the District context, which includes honoring all collective bargaining agreements for its teachers and school staff. To learn more about the Partnership, our mission, and how we approach our goals, please visit our website.
THE PRINCIPAL ROLE IN THE PARTNERSHIP FOR LA SCHOOLS NETWORK:
The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools seeks a transformational school leader who is committed to every student and family in the community.
In the Partnership network, we aim to foster schools where students experience joy as they learn and grow, where students develop a positive sense of their identity, where student voices are empowered, where culturally responsive pedagogy and practice is enacted, and where students and families see the school as a liberative force within the community. Partnership schools build strong systems, which allow strong student academic growth and school culture to thrive.
Partnership network principals are responsible for meeting all obligations as described in the LA Unified School Leadership Framework, including building a culture of learning and growth, overseeing classroom instruction, managing school operations, engaging families and community, and owning the growth and development of adults in the school community.
Our principals are all part of a professional learning community that emphasizes instructional leadership and cross‐school learning. Leading a school in the Partnership network means that our principals and their staff have access to our robust team of support‐providers in areas from Literacy and Math instruction to school budgets and teacher recruitment. You can learn more about our teams here!
BENEFITS OF JOINING THE PARTNERSHIP NETWORK:
Partnership principals belong to a tightly‐knit network of transformative administrators who desire to learn from one another. All of our principals report to an experienced school transformation leader who supervises and coaches 4‐6 principals, ensuring meaningful guidance and individualized support.
Partnership schools are LA Unified schools, and our administrators earn the same competitive pay, benefits and Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA) membership as in any District school. There are additional opportunities for Partnership school leaders as well.
Partnership principals have higher earning potential than those in most LA Unified schools, as our principals are paid to work the year‐round calendar and may be recognized and rewarded for their impact and tenure. We may offer an additional signing bonus for administrators who join our network with significant prior principal experience and proven impact with students.
