The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at Dorris Place Elementary School towards academic excellence.            

 

Dorris Place Elementary School, located in the community known as Elysian Valley, is a beautiful and safe place to learn and grow and where the diverse school community promotes academic excellence and respect for all individuals. The school was opened in 1926 and is part of Region West at 2225 Dorris Place, Los Angeles, CA 90031.

 

Dorris Place is an elementary school open to students in transitional kindergarten (TK) and students in kindergarten through grade 6. They have one Special Day class with students in grades 3-6. Dorris Place Elementary serves about 216 students in grades TK-6th grade, students comprised of predominantly Hispanic (77.8%), Black (1.9%), Asian (7.9%), White (5.1%) and Filipino (4.6%); 6.5% English Learners; 78.8% Free/reduced lunch.

 

At Dorris Place, each member of the school community understands the importance of developing collaborative decision-making and capacity-building processes. The established 501-C3, Partners of Dorris (POD), has worked in partnership with Education through Music – L.A. (ETM-LA) to establish a school-wide general music program in addition to an instrumental music program in grades 3-6. Dorris Place was also certified as a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) school, which is designed to provide all students with rich, rigorous learning as well as 21st Century skills.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of the LAUSD Strategic Plan, California State Standards, LAUSD Leadership Framework, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, English Learner Master Plan, Special Education, and District instructional goals; the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development for all personnel; experience working collaboratively with all stakeholders and demonstrate professionalism and respect in all interactions; willingness to delegate responsibilities as they relate to the school’s climate and committee structure; strong and effective planning and organizational skills; the ability to work independently; excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; the ability to interpret data to inform decisions and develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; and the ability to support the successful positive school-wide behavior plan. The ideal candidate believes in a collaborative approach and will support the arts, sciences, and technology. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will strive to create a safe, welcoming environment with clear expectations and mutual respect.

SALARY:

40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the district resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individuals may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching

*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

 

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
