Public Service Community School is a pilot high school located in the Florence-Firestone community of South Los Angeles and is part of LAUSD's Local District South. The school serves approximately 447 students in grades 9-12 on a traditional calendar. Public Service Community School is one of four pilot schools located on the Diego Rivera Learning Complex.
The student body is comprised of 97.5% Latinx, 1.6% African American, 0.4% White, and 0.5% students identifying as two or more races or other ethnicities. Public Service Community School is a Title I school serving a high-needs community, with approximately 14% English Learners, 18% identified GATE students, and 10% Students with Disabilities. Additionally, nearly all students qualify for LCFF supplemental funding.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate is a student-centered instructional leader with expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and AVID implementation. They will have a strong understanding of data analysis, tiered interventions, and instructional practices that support academic achievement, A-G completion, graduation readiness, and college and career success.
The candidate will coach and develop teachers, utilize the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework to strengthen instruction, and use data to improve student outcomes. They will build strong partnerships with families and community organizations and collaborate effectively with administrators across the Diego Rivera Learning Complex to ensure a shared commitment to student success.
SALARY:
Salary: MST 44G - E Basis ($137,393 - $171,333) – 234 paid days
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to budget limitations.
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in a secondary school
And one of the following:
- A minimum of one year of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential.
- Three years of verifiable full-time experience in a school-based leadership non-classroom assignment, such as coordinator, instructional coach, or dean. A portion of this time may include the following:
- Experience as a lead teacher and successful completion of an aspiring principals program sponsored by the Human Resources Division
- Experience as a member of a Pilot School Design team and successful completion of an aspiring principals program sponsored by the Human Resources Division
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching.
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
