The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal Elementary to collaborate with, support, and lead students, staff, and community of Canfield Heights Elementary towards academic excellence.

 

Canfield EL is a TK-5 elementary School for Advanced Studies. The school serves approximately 296 students in grades TK-5th, of which 47% are White, 22% Hispanic, 13% Unknown, 7% 2 or more/other ethnicities, 5% African-American, 4% Asian, and 2% Filipino. Of this population, 50% are socioeconomically disadvantaged,44% are GATE, 18% are Special Education, and 8% are English Learners. The school is part of the Hamilton Network of Schools and is located at 9233 Airdrome St., Los Angeles, CA 90035.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will be a student-centered, instructionally focused, collaborative, and equity-driven leader who has a firm belief that all students can achieve high levels. The candidate will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to lead a diverse elementary school community that includes English Learners, Students with Disabilities, GATE students, and students with a range of academic, social-emotional, health, and developmental needs. They will possess strong knowledge of the LAUSD Strategic Plan, the California Common Core State Standards, the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, and the LAUSD School Leadership Framework. The candidate will have the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development at all levels of personnel; experience working collaboratively with all stakeholders and demonstrate professionalism and respectful interactions; the willingness to delegate responsibilities as they relate to the school’s climate and committee structure; strong and effective planning and organizational skills; the ability to work independently; excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; the ability to interpret data to inform decisions and develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; and the ability to support a successful positive school-wide behavior plan. The ideal candidate will enthusiastically support and actively engage in the Gifted and Talented (SAS) program.

SALARY:

40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                      • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university    • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
